La ville d'Avignon vient de mettre en ligne un site internet entiérement consacré au secteur sauvegardé. L'ensemble du dispositif légal y est détaillé et l'on y trouve toutes les informations depuis l'historique de la ville jusqu'aux documents techniques accompagnant le secteur sauvegardé.

Ces fiches techniques, concernant les enduits, les menuiseries ou la ferronnerie ont été établies par l'Ecole d'Avignon.

Exhibition Habiter la Mediterranée

Following the great succes in Arles, where more of 3000 people came, the exhibition "Habiter la Mediterranée" crossed over the Rhone river to be showed in Sauve from Septembre 11 to 19, and then in Pont du Gard from october the 8th until Novembre the 15th.

Terra [In]cognita : une mission en Irlande

Dans le cadre du projet Terra [In]cognita, architecture de terre en Europe, l'Ecole d'Avignon est allée à la rencontres des acteurs de la construction terre et de la réhabilitation du patrimoine architectural en terre en Irlande. Cette mission s'est déroulée du 28 juin au 3 juillet 2010.

Cette mission avait également pour but d'identifier les différentes cultures constructives ayant recours au matériau terre, en Irlande.

D'autres missions sont programmées dans les 27 pays de l'Union Européenne et elles contribueront à la création d'un réseau européen des acteurs de la construction terre et à l'élaboration d'un atlas européen du patrimoine architectural en terre crue.

The 19 october 2010 at 18h00, in the Théâtre du Cabestan, Isabelle ROLET will give a lecture about frontage lime decor in Vaucluse.

Lecturing guide for more than 10 years in Provence, Isabelle ROLET, fascinated by painting and art history naturally came close to l'Ecole d'Avignon.
After the obtaining of her Heritage decoration painter degree, she lead its company towards heritage decor, fresco and preservation. At the same time she integrates the team of l'Ecole d'Avignon where she teach lime painting, fresco technique...

During the lecture, Isabelle ROLET will introduce history and techniques of painted lime decor on homes in Vaucluse. She will also explain the principles of usage and their application today.

The partners of the Terra [In]cognita project, founded by the 2007-2013 Culture program of the European Union, met in Tuscany, in the village of Barberino Val d'Elsa, for a second plenary meeting for the coordination and the implementation of the project.

This meeting has been organized in collaboration with the University of Florence, partner of the project.

Barberino Val d'Elsa was the main subject of a previous project, of which l'Ecole d'Avignon was a coordinator. It was the project village Terraneo, founded by the European program INTERREG IIIB.

Exhibition " Living in the Mediterraenan area" in Arles

The exhibition "Living in the Mediterraenan area", designed by l'Ecole d'Avignon will be displayed in the Chapelle des Trinitaires, rue de la République in Arles, from the 12 march to the 12 june (free access, from tuesday to saturday, from 10h to 12h30 and 14h to 18h30).

To go with this exhibition, we offer, with the participation of the heritage department of the city, the following events :

- Traditionnal Architecture in the Mediterranean area : lecture by René GUERIN, architect for l'Ecole d'Avignon and involved in heritage rehabilitation.
Wednesday 24th march at 18h, honour room of the city hall.

- Arles guided tour, with René Sette, caladeur and dry stone craftman, trainer for l'Ecole d'Avignon and writer of two books about these expertise, and with Jean-Marc Bernard, responsible of the saved area of the old Arles.
Saturday 8th may at 14h30, booking at 04 90 49 38 20 (until the day before, 17h)

- "Le Chant de la pierre" : musical piece with René Sette. A capella solo : regionals songs.

Romania, France and Portugal meet in Lisboa

The last 4th and 5th february, l'Ecole d'Avignon went to Lisboa in order to meet the Romanians and Portugueses partners, to work on the elaboration of a training course project.

The portuguese association In.Cidades held the meeting in its offices. The following structures were present :
- the Public Management and Administration Institute, Porto, Portugal
- the In.Cidades Association, Lisbonne, Portugal
- the National Heritage Institute, Bucarest, Romania
- the "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism, Bucarest, Romania
- the Transylvania Trust, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

This visit was founded by the Agence Europe Education Formation France, based in Bordeaux, having in mind the presentation of an application for an european project Leonardo da Vinci/Innovation Transfert.

RMSU workshop on ?Preventive conservation and maintenance?

Preservation measures are essentials for the saving and modernization of traditional architectures and historical méditerranean house, that are contributing to the charm of town center, and inhabitants social activities.

The thematical workshop that took place in Ghardaia from the last 23 to 25 november, was focused on mehtods and preservation practice actually used in the EU and in the partners mediterranean country, by taking into consideration the regular maintenance aspects, and the more important work, aimed to adapt the ancient house to modern standards.
The main goal of the workshop is to formulate recommandations for the authorities in charge of the heritage, and the local population, in order to set up more efficient measure of conservation and maintenance in their countries.

Patrice Morot-sir and Jean-Jacques Algros took part in this workshop, and presented the guide book : "Outils opérationnels pour diverses échelles de territoires" and the practice in the matter of facing treatment : "Enduits, réparation, traitements, principes".

TERRA inCOGNITA : first plenary session for the launch of the project

The first plenary session for the launch of the TERRA inCOGNITA, Earth architecture in Europe project has been held in Avignon the last 12 and 13 november.
It gathered the French, Italians, Spanish and Portuguese partners of the project :

- the Architectural, Urbanism and Environmental Council of Vaucluse (France)
- University of Florence, architectural department (Italia)
- Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain)
- Escola Superior Gallaecia, Vila Nova de Cerveira (Portugal)

This meeting was the kick off of a two year long project, wich vocation is for the public to discover the earth architecture in Europe, but also to federate, through a network, the european actors of earth building.

Press breakfast for the launch of the TERRA inCOGNITA european project

All the medias are invited for the launch of the project TERRA inCOGNITA : earth architecture in Europe, on Friday 13 november 2009 at 9 a.m, in l'Ecole d'Avignon, training and rehabilitation centre for the heritage building, for a press breakfast.

Funded in the area of the Culture Programme (2007-2013) of the European Union, and co-funded by the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, this project is a part of a first project, wich vocation was to do an inventory of fixtures in knowledge in earth-architecture in Europe.

The inventory fixture done, the necessity to make this architecture public and to support the european earth-construction came up.

The translation of this necessity is this new project, that we are glad to introduce, in the presence of the european partners (Italy, Spain, Portugal).

L'Ecole d'Avignon will present its activities in the event of the 3rd Regionals Meetings of the Solidaire Development programs of villages and cities in Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur, that will occur at the Regional Council, place Jules Guesdes in Marseille, the next 16th october.

Detailed program :

9h00 - Coffee reception

9h30 - The interdistrict range of development and equipement projects. Round table hosted by Christophe CASTANER, Vice-president of the Region PACA in charge of the development. Animated by Claire de SEVERAC, AMO PAS team. Presentation of the three types of interdistrict approach that will be developed in the afternoon's workshop.

Theme 1 - To program the landscape and the public space in the interdistrict scale. From the blessed gardens to the community garden. Regional landscape workshop, about the Pays de Sorgues et des Monts de Vaucluse. Thierry Laverne, member of the Ecole Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles. Catherine LEGIER, President of the Community of Communes of the Pays de Sorgues et des monts de Vaucluse. Jacques OLIVIER, mayor of the Thor and regional councillor.

Theme 2 - Common theme from shared projects. The concrete translation of an interdistrict strategy in the nature and characteristics of a development project : which projects ? How ? In collaboration with the French Ambassy in Bahrain, l'Ecole d'Avignon hosted, from the 27 to the 30 of last july, a delegation from the Ministry of Cultur of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This delegation was travelling in the context of a filing procedure for a Bahraini site to the Unesco's World Heritage. This site is located on the island of Muharraq. It posses a material and immaterial heritage surrounding cultured pearl and its exploitation. This heritage is the object of the filing procedure. The project is named : "The Pearling pathway".

More specifically, this delegation was travelling through Provence in order to meet our structure and work on a cooperation project in the matter of building heritage rehabilitation in Muharraq (technical assistance and training course).

During these 4 days, l'Ecole d'Avignon was able to show its technical competencies through the example of training building site and expertise work.

L'Ecole d'Avignon also provided a heritage site visit program, and meetings with regional actors of heritage saving.

We will quote by way of illustration :
- the savec area in Avignon (House of Heritage)
- The Popes Palace in Avignon (General conservation)
- Arles and its Roman and antique heritage (City of Arles, and direction of Heritage)
- the Laboratory of Studies and Research on Materials in Arles

This program has been conceive as a tool to help in filing process held by the Bahraini delegation. The objective was to show a sample of gestion models, protection and development of Heritage in France.

The Relais Culture Europe and the Balkans, in l'Ecole d'Avignon.

The last 8, 9 and 10th july, l'Ecole d'Avignon welcomed the Relais Culture Europe, with a workshop about : Building a road map for the reinforcement of Balkan/EU/French cultural cooperation.

Ressource center on Europe and culture, and National Contact Point for the Culture program (2007-2013), the Relais Culture Europe informs french and europeans culturals and artistics actors about :
- the problematics and issue regarding Europe and culture,
- the objectives, politics and community programs,
- their translations in terms of strategies, practicality and projects.
It seeks a global objectif to europeanize the practice of french cultural actors, and the reinforcement of cultural cooperation.

In the perspective of an adhesion to the European Union from southern-east countries (the Balkans regions), the Relais Culture Europe wants to develop links and cooperation with those countries. In this spirit, it seemed necessary to contribute to the structuration of the cultural sector in this region, same for the renewal of its place in the action perspective of the europeans culturals agents, and french actors in particular.
In this context, the Relais wanted the professionals of this sector to meet in order to offer them a reflexion space about the development of a cooperation.

These three days gathered more than twenty participants, cultural actors from the Balkans, but also from France, Belgium, Germany and Turkey. They all speaked about their experience and worked on a roadsheet of cultural cooperation for the 2 to 3 years to come.

The Culture and Heritage Industries Cluster, in l'Ecole d'Avignon

Tuesday 7th july, l'Ecole d'Avignon welcomed the Culture and Heritage Industries Cluster, in the event of a little information breakfast.

This meeting had two objectives :
- to introduce the Cluster to the various economics actors of Vaucluse with activity related to the heritage and culture domain,
- to widen its members network.

Based in Arles, the Culture and Heritage Industries Cluster gather industrials, research and teaching actors related to culture and heritage. It leads partnership projects involving those actors. It has obtained the PRIDES (Pôle Régional d'Innovation et de Développement Economique Solidaire) seal of approval, the 30th march 2007.

The goal of the Cluster is to favors the development of innovating products and services, in accordance with the needs of the territories involved in projects regarding heritage and culture.

It is the only Cluster in Europe focused on Culture and Heritage.

It offers to its members actions of animations and structuration for their heritage and cultural industry, but also an help for the conception of innovating industrials projects, likely to respond to R&D projects from the European Union, the State or the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

Partner of the Culture and Heritage Industries Cluster, l'Ecole d'Avignon unveiled this information morning with a presentation of its structure. Gilles Martinet (President of the Cluster) and Philippe Hurdebourcq (Director of the Cluster), then presented the Cluster and responded to the many questions of the participants.

Friday, June 12th has been signed, in Barcelona, the creation of the Rehabimed Association

This association show the will to perpetuate the projects created in the Mediterranean area, especially in the frame of the Euromed Heritage programs and the CORPUS, CORPUS LEVANT, REHABIMED and MONTADA projects.

The purpose of the RehabiMed Association is to promote rehabilitation of the existing building stock and sustainable development in Europe and Mediterranean.
To achieve its purposes, RehabiMed carries out projects and activities that enable the following :

- To stimulate research and training on rehabilitation, sustainability and enhanced value of the maintenance of the current building stock through a network of International experts.

- To broadcast a working multidisciplinary methodology for the rehabilitation and maintenance of buildings, with respect to legislation, management and building techniques.

- To create synergies between all the parties involved in the process of rehabilitation, revitalisation and sustainable urbanism.

- To increase the management capacity of local and regional authorities in sustainable urban rehabilitation.

- To contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of a wide range of the population by the rehabilitation and renewal of their accommodations.

- To provide technical assistance for developing NGOs in their activities connected to the renewal of the building stock.

- To encourage: the inventory of, the evaluation of, and subsequent revitalisation of places of historic interest; and the sustainable rehabilitation of buildings.

- To enhance mutual understanding and dialogue between cultures, generations and genders by the preservation of common historical and cultural architectural heritage identity.

- To stimulate awareness on behalf of the general population about the importance of safeguarding the architectural heritage as a factor of sustainable development.
