Traditional window- and door-making |
The woodwork in windows and doors is one
of the integral elements of architecture. These elements fill their
role by dividing the space allotted to them into even partitions,
with specific proportions. Over History, the play of measurements
and proportions has varied telling graphically of each passing period.
It
is precisely because the skilled proportions of windows and doors,
always related to the architectural rhythm of the building, seems
to have been forgotten, that it is now important to focus our
attention on this important stylistic heritage.
Even if the functional aspects
of these components, with respect to the architectural vision
of a building, are essential, their esthetic design must remain
an important
step in the conception of a structure.
Old windows unite both of these qualities. Despite
their 200 or 250 years of age, they are still repairable; not only
is their repair economical when compared to their replacement, this
work respects craftsmanship that has satisfied its daily purpose
for over ten generations.
