Traditional stone-paving |
| Streets and squares in town and village centers are traditionally
paved in stone, whether rough, squared, or flat. Each paved space
displays the particularities of the resources available in the vicinity:
rounded river rock, roughly cut blocks, limestone, porphyry or granite,
etc.The variety of materials, of models, of patterns is extremely
rich and constitutes an exceptional heritage in itself. Unfortunately,
these common works in villages and in many town neighborhoods, have
seen little maintenance over the past decades, making them seem awkward
and outdated. |

Today, this opinion seems to be changing. Stone pavings
are appreciated for their esthetic value, their adaptation to varying
topography, the techniques used to create them that permit partial
renovations, their beautiful patina. Everywhere, they are restored,
rebuilt, and the skills of the paver are sought out once again. |
