Heritage doors and window frames:
preservation, repair, rebuilding

On architectural heritage preservation projects, window-frames and doors are all too often simply replaced automatically.

The goal of this course is to examine the technical, financial, architectural and efficiency criteria that determine on-site decisions. A large part of the course is dedicated to the observation of heritage window and door frames so as to determine their architectural qualities:
- evolution of wall openings and frames throughout history,
- role of doors and windows in architectural composition, and perturbations thereof,
- identifying keys.

Secondly, based on a methodology of observation and diagnostics, analysis determines the different levels of intervention:
- preservation of the piece in situ and maintenance,
- techniques of repair and improvement,
- rebuilding, study of replacement models.
